Gerber file is a computer software. It is a collection of document formats for PCB industry software to describe PCB (circuit layer, solder resist layer, character layer, etc.) images and drilling and milling data. It is the standard format for PCB industry image conversion.
The Gerber format was originally developed by Gerber systems and is now owned by ucamco. Its predecessor Barco company acquired Gerber systems. Ucamco keeps updating the version of Gerber specification. The current Gerber specification is version I1, which was released in December 2012 and can be downloaded from ucamco's website for free.
